Three youths have been arrested red-handed attempting to bribe UPDF recruiting team during the recruitment exercise held in Central Division, Kitgum Municipality, Kitgum District.
According to ACP Rusoke Kituuma, the Police Mouthpiece, the incident involving Torach Isaac, Okema Samuel and Kitara Joel occurred in the evening of Saturday, 9th August, 2025.
The suspects allegedly organized a total of Shs900,000 to bribe the team leader and were arrested on the spot. The amounts were allegedly divided as follows: Shs600,000 from Torach Isaac, Shs200,000 from Okema Samuel, and Shs100,000 from Kitara Joel. They were handed over to CPS Kitgum and charged with bribery.
Meanwhile, on the same day, UPDF handed over 5 suspects to Kitgum Police in connection with multiple offences committed during the recruitment exercise held in Central Division, Kitgum Municipality, Kitgum District.
At around 10:00 AM, during the verification of participants’ academic documents, five (05) candidates were found to have submitted forged documents.
Rusoke identifies the suspects as; Okurut David, Byaruhanga Alfred, Olanya Phillip, Kidega Richard and, Oryema John Bosco.
They were handed over to CPS Kitgum and charged with forgery.
Case files have been opened to facilitate investigations. The suspects are currently detained at CPS Kitgum. Exhibits, including forged academic documents and the 900,000 UGX cash, are in police custody.
Relevant witness statements have been recorded, and inquiries are ongoing.
