Top Story: Algeria Outclass Uganda in CHAN Opener at Namboole

Namboole, Kampala – Algeria made a powerful statement in the opening match of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) with a commanding victory over Uganda at the newly renovated Namboole Stadium on Saturday evening.

The North African giants showed their class with a 3-0 win, outplaying the hosts in nearly every department. From the first whistle, Algeria displayed tactical discipline, sharp passing, and superior game management, leaving Uganda struggling to keep up in front of a home crowd that had hoped for a brighter start.

The opening goal came midway through the first half, silencing the Ugandan faithful. Algeria continued to press and doubled their lead shortly before halftime, capitalizing on a defensive lapse. Despite a spirited effort from the Cranes in the second half, Algeria’s third goal sealed the result and put the game well out of reach.

Uganda’s head coach admitted his side was second-best on the night, vowing to regroup ahead of their next fixture. “It’s a tough loss, especially at home, but we will analyze and bounce back,” he said during the post-match press conference.

With this win, Algeria tops Group A and strengthens its position as one of the tournament favorites. Uganda, on the other hand, faces an uphill battle to qualify from the group and will need a swift turnaround in form.

The CHAN tournament, reserved for players active in their domestic leagues, continues this week with more group-stage action across host cities.
