NAMISINDWA

Apollo Masika, the incumbent Namisindwa County Legislator, has this announced his decision to run as an independent candidate in the 2026 general election.

Masika made the announcement on Thursday afternoon, 31st July, 2025 while addressing the Media at his home located in Senior Quarters, Mbale City.

This follows his loss at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries to Metrin Musufwa Nazala, who garnered 28,108 votes, against his 15,477 votes.

According to results which were declared after NRM party primaries, Apollo Masika lost the election after gathering 15,477 votes, Metrin Musufwa Nazala, the current Tsekululu sub county to district female councilor won after garnering 28,108 votes. Others like Jorum Katambi got 4,690 votes, Wilbroad Nakhabala 10,579, James Wanzala 252 votes, John Bosco Wepukhulu 4,317 votes, Rogers Kutosi 3,123votes, Gerald Musamali 9,004 votes, Samuel Situma 1718 and Isaac Paulo Khaukha got 466 votes.

Masika claims the election was marred with irregularities, including underage children lining up and being counted.

He also alleges that in some sub-counties, such as Bungati, Tsekululu, and Mukoto, results were fabricated by village registrars without proper voting procedures.

Masika blames the Namisindwa district NRM office for failing to organize a free and fair election, stating that he is running as an independent candidate at the request of his voters.

Aramazan Wabuko, the Namisindwa district NRM Chairperson, denies Masika’s allegations, stating that no child lined up and voted during the election. Wabuko urges Masika to accept defeat and support his opponent, given his ten-year tenure as MP.

Masika is not the only one contesting the NRM primaries’ outcome. Other candidates, including Jackson Wakwaika, the Namisindwa district LCV chairperson, and Dr. Sarah Khanakwa, who ran for Namisindwa district woman MP, are also planning to run as independent candidates in the general election, citing disagreements with the district party’s conduct of the NRM primaries.
