Breaking News: Police Identify Suspect in Ggaba Kindergarten Stabbing That Killed Four Children

KAMPALA, UGANDA — April 2, 2026 — Police in Kampala have identified the suspect behind a deadly stabbing attack at a kindergarten in Ggaba that claimed the lives of four young children.

According to the Inspector General of Police, Abbas Byakagaba, the suspect—identified as Okello Christopher Onyu—is currently in police custody after being rescued from an angry mob that attempted to lynch him shortly after the incident.

The tragic attack occurred at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program School in Makindye Division, a suburb of Kampala. Authorities say the suspect allegedly stormed the school premises and fatally stabbed four juveniles, sending shockwaves across the local community.

Following the incident, tensions escalated as residents clashed with security personnel while attempting to take justice into their own hands. Police intervened to restore order and secure the suspect.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Rachael Kawala, confirmed the development, describing the incident as “tragic” and noting that investigations are ongoing.

“We confirm a tragic incident at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program School in Makindye Division where a male suspect brutally stabbed and killed four juveniles. The suspect has been apprehended, and the motive behind the killings is still under investigation,” she said.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the motive behind the attack, but assured the public that more details will be released as investigations progress.

The incident has sparked fear and outrage among residents, with many calling for increased security measures in schools across the city.
