**Breaking: Bail Proceedings Halted After NUP’s Sauda Madada Vomits Blood in Court**
Bail application proceedings for a group of National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters were dramatically interrupted today when one of the accused, Sauda Madada, began vomiting blood in court.
The incident took place during a hearing at the Kanyanya Chief Magistrate’s Court, where Chief Magistrate Roselyn Nsenge immediately paused the proceedings. “We apologise; it was not put to our attention. We are also responsible for these prisoners,” she stated, acknowledging the unexpected health crisis. Madada, who is known within the NUP as the “Inspector General of Police,” appeared visibly weak and was assisted by six prison officers upon entering the courtroom.
Madada, who was seen using a urinary catheter, began to vomit blood shortly after stepping off the prison bus. Following the incident, Magistrate Nsenge ordered that Madada be urgently transferred to Mulago Hospital for medical treatment, accompanied by her distraught mother.
Madada was arrested in September 2025 at the Uganda-Kenya border in Busia. She is being tried alongside 10 other NUP supporters, including prominent figures such as Edward Ssebufu (alias Eddie Mutwe), NUP deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, and Doreen Kaija, the principal of the NUP Leadership School.
The prosecution alleges that the group participated in an unlawful military assembly on February 12, 2025, at the NUP offices in Makerere-Kavule, Kawempe Division, without the necessary ministerial approval.
Madada’s previous attempts to secure bail have been unsuccessful. In addition to her involvement in NUP, Madada had recently been nominated as an independent candidate for Kampala Central Division Councillor, after failing to secure the NUP party ticket.
The court has adjourned the proceedings while the medical situation is addressed.
