**Landslide Strikes Namisindwa District, Destroys Crops and Displaces Families**

A devastating landslide hit three villages in Namisindwa District following heavy rains that have been battering the Bugisu region since last week. The incident, which occurred on the evening of Sunday, 9th November 2025, buried crops but thankfully caused no loss of life.

The affected villages—Mutongo, Buwalukhuyi, and Sikusi—are located within Namabya Sub-county. Local authorities reported significant damage to crops such as cassava, bananas, and coffee, which were buried under mud and debris. While no houses were directly affected, cracks in the ground prompted concerns about future risks, leading around 20 families to evacuate their homes for safety.

James Nakhaim Brazil, the LC3 chairperson for Namabya, emphasized the urgency of government intervention to address the ongoing risks. He pointed out the presence of dangerous cracks in the land, which have also affected neighboring sub-counties, including Namisindwa Town Council and Bupoto.

Residents, such as Sarah Mukite and Peter Welikhe, are now appealing for urgent government aid, fearing that their already devastated livelihoods will push them into a food crisis. Welikhe also expressed frustration, noting that he has yet to receive any compensation promised after a previous landslide in March 2025.

As the rains continue, the community faces the threat of hunger, with much of their agriculture destroyed. Local leaders are urging both the government and humanitarian organizations to step in to support those displaced by the landslide.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing situation.
