ENTEBBE
The Entebbe Division Police Commander (DPC) SSP Stephen Twinomugisha and the officer in charge of Criminal Investigations Directorate SP, Dinah Kayesu, are in deep trouble following the death of an American national who died in the police cells under unclear circumstances. The deceased was identified as Eric Nkusi, an American national.
It’s reported that the deceased was arrested at night on August 1, 2025 over illegal stay in Uganda, following expiry of his visa. He was thrown behind bars where he died from on that very night.
According to credible sources, the deceased who was an American of Burundi origin and a suspected drug addict is said to have developed severe symptoms during night hours while in police cells which worsened his heath and eventually died.
Prior to his death, sources indicate that he first pleaded with cops on desk to provide him with heroin, claiming without taking it he would die, something the cops ignored and advised him to wait until he returns to his home country where he would access it freely because in Uganda it’s an illegal substance.
“The deceased demanded access to drugs, warning that he might die without taking it. The officers thought he was a joker and did not take him seriously. However, the following day in the morning he was found dead in the police cells,” a source told us.
The shocking incident has sparked off tension among cops at Entebbe Police Station, with officers reportedly blaming each other for negligence.
The American Embassy in Kampala has since dispatched a team to investigate the circumstances surrounding Nkusi’s death.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s body was taken to the City Mortuary Mulago for a postmortem, pending burial arrangements to his country of origin.
Police have not yet commented on what could have caused the death of the deceased in their police cells.
