Four people were injured in a road accident on the Luwero–Kikyusa murram road in Luwero district.

The injured have been identified as police recruits Kevin Okello, 22, and Shaban Moru, 24, both from Jinja; Joseph Eric Kirunda, 20, from Bugweri district and Emmanuel Muzito, 34, the taxi conductor and a resident of Mbiko trading centre.

According to Savannah Region Police spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima, the accident occurred around 4:00 a.m. when a white Toyota Hiace taxi (reg. UBL 426H), carrying police recruits to the Kabalye Training School in Masindi, rammed into a stationary TATA lorry (reg. UBS 925E) loaded with sugarcane.

The lorry had been parked along the road in Kabanga village, Kikyusa town council. Twiineamazima attributed the crash to poor visibility caused by heavy dust along the murram road. All four victims were rushed to Luwero General Hospital for treatment. Police say both drivers fled the scene and are currently being pursued.
