TOP STORY: Midnight Inferno Destroys Property Worth Millions at Bwaise Business Complex
August 30, 2025 | Bwaise, Kampala
A devastating fire broke out at Bwaise Business Complex in Kampala’s Industrial Area in the early hours of Saturday morning, leaving traders in anguish after property worth millions of shillings was destroyed.
The blaze, which erupted at approximately 12:30 AM on August 30, is suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault, quickly engulfing timber shops and wood stores housed within the complex.
Swift Police and Fire Response
According to SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson, the fire brigade responded promptly with eight firefighting trucks, successfully containing the inferno before it could spread to neighboring structures.
“Fortunately, no lives were lost,” SSP Onyango confirmed. “The fire broke out after midnight when the complex was closed and most traders had gone home.”
Traders Left in Ruins
While the exact value of the damage is yet to be officially established, early estimates indicate millions of shillings in merchandise and equipment were lost, as traders who operate timber and carpentry-related businesses woke up to scenes of destruction.
Police say investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the fire, and efforts are ongoing to assess the full extent of the damage.
As officials comb through the debris, affected traders are calling on authorities for support and immediate intervention to help them recover their livelihoods.
