Police at Kabalagala are holding Ssetuba Derrick, a known member of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and aspiring candidate for the Buyaga East Member of Parliament seat, over allegations of fraud.
Initial reports circulated widely on social media on Sunday, August 10, suggesting that Ssetuba had been abducted by armed men near Lugogo Mall, a claim amplified by MP Frank Kabuye (Kassanda South) on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

However, Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire has clarified that Ssetuba was lawfully arrested on charges of obtaining money by false pretenses. He is accused of defrauding Namara Omuhereza of UGX 8 million.
“Contrary to the reports of abduction, Ssetuba Derrick was lawfully arrested and is currently detained at Kabalagala Police Station,” Owoyesigyire stated.
Since the arrest, two more alleged victims have come forward, claiming similar experiences involving Ssetuba. Police have confirmed that the case file will be submitted to the Office of the Resident State Attorney (RSA) for further guidance and potential prosecution.
“All allegations will be thoroughly investigated,” the police said. “Further details will be provided as investigations progress.”
