Kampala Police Rescue 3-Year-Old Girl Kidnapped for Ransom

KAMPALA — Police in Matugga have rescued a three-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped for ransom, arresting two suspects in connection with the incident.

According to Rachael Kawala, the child went missing on March 8, 2026, after leaving home to play with friends in the neighbourhood but failed to return.

Her mother searched for the child without success.

Later at about 6:00 p.m., the victim’s grandmother reportedly received a WhatsApp message containing a photograph of the girl, with the sender demanding Shs40 million in ransom for her release.

Police immediately registered a missing child case at Matugga Police Station and launched a search operation.

During the investigation, officers arrested two suspects identified as Selwanja Godfrey and Ntege Shakib.

The girl was later recovered on Friday, March 13, 2026, from Kayilira Village in Buwambo Ward, Gombe Division, in Wakiso District, where she had allegedly been kept at the home of one of the suspects.

Police said the child was immediately taken by the task team for medical examination and care.

Authorities say investigations into the suspected kidnapping are ongoing.
