MBALE CITY

Tragedy struck on Monday evening, 28th July, 2025 as Wasike Shafik, a Senior Four student at Mbale High School, was brutally murdered in what is suspected to be a school-related gang attack.
According to eyewitnesses, Shafik was stabbed by an unknown assailant at the gate who fled the scene immediately after the attack. The incident occurred under unclear circumstances but sources suspect it may be linked to rising tensions and rivalry among students from various schools in Mbale City, particularly between Mbale High School, Nkoma Secondary School and Mbale SS.
Shafik’s lifeless body was recovered and taken to Mbale City Mortuary for a postmortem as police began investigations into the matter.
This tragic incident adds to growing concerns over the surge in student related crime and gang violence in the city. Authorities and school administrations are now under increased pressure to address the escalating insecurity among students.
Community members and school leaders have condemned the attack, calling for swift justice and stricter measures to curb student gang activity.
“This is a painful loss. No child should lose their life due to such senseless violence. We call on security agencies to act swiftly,” one concerned parent said.
Investigations are ongoing with efforts to retrieve footage from nearby CCTV cameras.
Rogers Taitika the Elgon region police spokesperson has confirmed the incident saying the body is still at Mbale city mortuary as police continue Investigating.
