The Bubulo Magistrate Court has sentenced Anthony Wabweni, a resident of Tsekululu Sub-County in Namisindwa district, to six months of community service for criminal trespass and domestic violence.

Wabweni was accused of attempting to grab a house and 2 acres of land from his 80-year-old grandmother (widow), Jessica Nabulo a resident of Tsekululu Sub County in Namisindwa district.

The Chief Magistrate, Esther Nalulungi, sentenced Wabweni to six months of community service and ordered him to pay Shs300,000 in costs. The court also ruled that Wabweni should return the house to Nabulo.

Vediket Manana, the Public Relations Officer of Redeemed International, a non-governmental organization that supports free legal services to widows and orphans, thanked the court for giving justice to Nabulo.

Manana noted that Namisindwa district has a high number of cases related to property grabbing from widows and orphans.

Desi Nekesa, a lawyer of Redeemed International who was Nabulo’s advocate says this case was started last year adding that she is happy that the court expedited the hearing and ruling to give justice to her client.

Robert Wambwa, the Community Liaison Officer attached to Namisindwa Central police station stated that Wabweni is currently serving his community service sentence by cleaning at Busulwa Government Primary School under supervision of LC1 chairperson.

He says after completing the six-month sentence, the LCI chairperson will write a report to the police, which will then be forwarded to the Bubulo Magistrate Court stating that he has successfully accomplished his six months punishment.

Wambwa urged the public to take this as an example and avoid grabbing properties from widows and orphans, warning that the law will take action against those who do.

Emma Bwayo, the Namisindwa district LCV NRM flag bearer, expressed happiness with the court’s ruling, saying it will set an example to those who grab properties from widows and orphans.

Nabulo, expressed joy on Thursday, 7th August, 2025 at a ceremony where her house was handed back to her before LC1 chairperson, community members and officials of Redeemed International saying there are many other widows and orphans out there that Redeemed International must support.
