JINJA CITY
The NRM party chairman, Tanga Odoi, has officially opened the Jinja tally centre. While at the centre today Thursday, 24th July, 2025, Odoi remarked that the elections have so far been peaceful, and his office has not received reports of any major incidents—except in Kayunga District, where there were initial allegations of over-voting. Upon verification of the voters’ register, however, no evidence of over-voting was found.
Odoi urged journalists to remain factual and precise in their reporting, emphasizing that the party is in full control of the electoral process.
“What defines the NRM party is discipline and transparency,” he said. “If we cheat people, it reflects badly on their families, especially since they invest money to become candidates.”
He called on the administrators of the Jinja Hall tally centre to maintain transparency and to promptly report any issues to him directly—either by phone or in writing. He stated that he is in the Busoga region to oversee the process and ensure that vote rigging is prevented.
It should be noted that the NRM primaries are currently taking place at both city and district levels. However, voter turnout has been low in Jinja City. Some incidents of violence have also been reported, particularly in the division mayoral race between Anjoga Rogers Egesa and Kitakule Faruwa in one of the local villages.
Additionally, tensions have arisen due to the presence of gangs, locally known as Engali, allegedly aligned with various candidates. These groups have been linked to disruptions in several village areas, including the Golf Course area, where confusion broke out among supporters—some of whom were accused of being voters from Madhavani Village, not the designated area.
