Nakaseke District, Uganda – Police in Nakaseke District have recovered 19 stolen heads of cattle and arrested two suspects in a security operation targeting livestock theft in the area.
According to authorities, the cattle were stolen from farmers in different villages within Nakaseke before security teams launched an intelligence-led operation that led to their recovery. The animals were reportedly found hidden in a nearby location, allegedly awaiting resale.
Intelligence-Led Operation
Police said the arrests followed a tip-off from community members concerned about increasing cases of cattle theft in the district. Officers tracked the suspects and recovered all 19 heads of cattle during the operation.
The two suspects are currently in custody and are expected to face charges related to livestock theft and illegal possession of suspected stolen property. Investigations are ongoing, and police have not ruled out additional arrests.
Farmers Applaud Police Efforts
Livestock farming remains a major economic activity in Nakaseke District, making cattle theft a serious concern for local communities. Farmers have welcomed the swift police response, noting that such crimes threaten their livelihoods.
Authorities have assured residents that security patrols will be intensified to curb further incidents. Police also urged the public to continue sharing information that can help prevent crime and protect property.
Ongoing Fight Against Cattle Theft
Cattle theft cases have periodically affected rural districts across central Uganda. Police say community vigilance, combined with intelligence-driven operations, remains key in dismantling criminal networks involved in livestock theft.
The recovered cattle will be handed back to their rightful owners after verification processes are completed.
