Kampala, September 5, 2025 — In a display of unwavering support, hundreds of NRM supporters— led by local leaders and residents—converged in Kampala’s Rubaga Division yesterday to endorse President Yoweri Museveni as the party’s presidential flag bearer in the run-up to the 2026 general elections
The endorsement event emphasized the president’s role in restoring peace and stability—cited as foundational to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation. “Before 1986, Ugandans were fleeing into exile. Today, Uganda hosts millions of refugees thanks to the stability created by President Museveni,” remarked Moses Ariho, Deputy Resident City Commissioner of Rubaga Leaders also spotlighted the impact of flagship government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), noting that efforts must now focus on fighting corruption and ensuring proper utilization of development funds
Ivan Kamuntu Semakula Majjembere, Rubaga Division’s NRM chairperson, called on opposition-leaning individuals—particularly those from the National Unity Platform (NUP)—to consider joining the NRM. He pledged local leadership’s commitment to reclaiming electoral positions in the division
The event concluded with a joint security briefing where party leaders, alongside security officials, urged residents to act as “ambassadors of peace.” Ariho also warned landlords against evicting bibanja holders, reminding them of tenants’ legal protections under the law .
