Mbarara, Uganda – In a dramatic and tightly guarded move, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, stunned residents of Mbarara and political observers nationwide on Friday by unveiling the National Unity Platform (NUP)‘s Western Uganda regional headquarters—secretly built over the past year.
Located next to the Independence Park Grounds in Mbarara City, the office was constructed silently and strategically to avoid what NUP leaders claim is routine sabotage from state agencies. The surprise unveiling was led by Bobi Wine himself, who is also the party’s 2026 presidential flag bearer.
“We built this headquarters without anyone knowing, and we opened it without anyone knowing — and that’s how we shall unseat Museveni, without anyone knowing,” Bobi Wine told a cheering crowd.

The launch caught both supporters and security forces off-guard, symbolizing what party insiders are calling a “new chapter in stealth strategy and grassroots expansion.”
Party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya revealed that the land was quietly acquired over a year ago, with construction completed in secrecy thanks to tight internal discipline.
“This secrecy was necessary. It protected the project from regime interference. We’re proud of this silent victory,” Rubongoya said.
The new headquarters was dedicated to the late Jolly Kyomugasho Mugisha, NUP’s Deputy President for Western Uganda, who passed away earlier this week at Mbarara Hospital. Her contributions to building the party’s base in the region were honored with emotional tributes.
Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi, who also serves as NUP spokesperson, announced that the office will coordinate all party activities across Western Uganda ahead of the 2026 general elections.
“This is more than just a building; it’s a command center for the future of change in Uganda,” Ssenyonyi said.
A Growing Trend of Surprise Moves
The Mbarara launch comes just weeks after NUP secretly opened another regional office in Iganga, Eastern Uganda—signaling a deliberate strategy of operating under the radar in politically sensitive regions.
Political analysts see the tactic as a clear sign of NUP’s growing political maturity and its ability to outmaneuver traditional state surveillance and interference mechanisms.
As the 2026 elections approach, NUP’s surprise expansion into President Museveni’s political heartlands is seen as a bold statement: they are organizing, expanding, and not backing down.
