Police Investigate Bus-Train Collision at Namumira Railway Crossing

Police have launched an investigation into a collision between a Trinity Express bus and a Uganda Railway passenger train that occurred on the morning of Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Namumira railway crossing in Mukono District.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the incident happened when the bus, registration number RAH 629B, driven by Bulya Erat, failed to stop at the railway crossing and was hit by the train, registration number 73U32, operated by Henry Munyarurembo.

“The train damaged the rear part of the bus, but fortunately no lives were lost and no injuries were reported,” Onyango confirmed.

Police responded quickly to the scene, recorded witness statements, and began a formal investigation. The involved bus and train have been taken to the Uganda Railway offices in Kyetume, where the bus driver is assisting with ongoing inquiries.

Onyango issued a stern reminder to motorists about the dangers of reckless driving at railway crossings.

“We want to remind all motorists that overspeeding and failure to observe traffic rules have serious consequences,” he said. “Drivers must adhere to safety guidelines, especially at railway crossings, to prevent avoidable accidents.”

The incident has once again raised concerns about safety measures at level crossings and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations in such zones.
