Butambala: NRM Senior Leaders Rally Behind ‘Buganda Ku M7’ Campaign, Urge Party Unity to Reclaim Opposition Strongholds
Butambala, Uganda – In a renewed effort to strengthen its foothold in Central Uganda, senior National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders have called for unity, reconciliation, and focused mobilization among party members, particularly in Butambala District, one of the constituencies currently held by the opposition.
The call was made during a high-profile mobilization event under the “Buganda Ku M7” campaign, aimed at rallying support for President Yoweri Museveni and regaining political ground in the Buganda sub-region ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Among the key figures present were Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka and State Minister for Microfinance Haruna Kasolo, who both emphasized the urgency of building internal party cohesion and ending infighting that has weakened the NRM’s position in several districts.
“The time for divisions and bickering is over. If we are to reclaim Butambala and other opposition-held constituencies, we must work together — united and focused,” said AG Kiryowa Kiwanuka, urging aspiring candidates and grassroots leaders to prioritize the party’s collective agenda over personal ambition.
Minister Haruna Kasolo, a lead figure in the Central Region NRM mobilization, warned against complacency and encouraged party leaders to reach out to youth, women, and undecided voters who feel disconnected from the party’s vision.
“This campaign is not just about President Museveni. It’s about restoring trust in the NRM and reminding Buganda that development, stability, and opportunity lie in unity with the party,” Kasolo said.
The “Buganda Ku M7” initiative comes at a critical time, as the opposition — particularly the National Unity Platform (NUP) — continues to enjoy significant support in the region following strong performances in the 2021 elections.
NRM leaders say their new strategy focuses on grassroots engagement, reconciliation among rival camps, and tailored community outreach programs to re-establish political dominance in Buganda.
The event in Butambala also featured cultural performances, testimonies from former opposition supporters who have since joined the NRM, and a call for respectful political discourse ahead of the 2026 campaign season.
The message was clear: the NRM is not backing down from reclaiming lost territory — and it begins with putting party unity first.
