The Elgon region police have arrested three individuals in connection with the murder of Wasike Shafik, a Senior Four student of Mbale High School.

According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, two people, one male and one female, were seen in a CCTV footage and are believed to have witnessed the crime.

The father of the prime suspect was also arrested to help police in locating his son, who is currently on the run.

The police are holding the three suspects (identities withheld) to aid in their investigation into the murder, which is suspected to be linked to school-related gang violence.

Taitika confirmed that the two were arrested based on CCTV footage, while the father was arrested to help track down his son.

Yahaya Were, the Deputy RCC of Mbale City, has condemned the incident and promised to improve police patrols around schools to prevent such incidents in the future.

Relatedly, the Inzu Yamasaba cultural institution has launched a campaign to promote cultural values, morality, and behavior change among learners in all schools in Bugisu sub region.
