JINJA — National UPDF Recruitment Begins in Busoga Region
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has launched its physical recruitment exercise in the Busoga region, beginning today, Tuesday, 5 August 2025, in Jinja City and Jinja District, as part of a nationwide process running until 15 August 2025 (BBC MEDIA).
According to Lieutenant Nathan Tumuhaire, spokesperson for the Busoga recruitment team, the three‑day schedule will cycle through all districts, aiming to fill a quota of 969 recruits for the entire region. Jinja City has been allocated 22 slots, Jinja District 82, with remaining targets distributed among districts such as Kamuli and Buyende. Recruits will receive introductory cards valid for three days, granting access to training at Kaweweta in Nakaseke District
Lt. Tumuhaire stressed that only medically fit candidates are eligible—applicants with conditions like ringworm or bowed legs are disqualified. Document forgery or impersonation, such as fake IDs or academic credentials, will lead to arrest and prosecution. A UPDF medical team will conduct health checks including blood tests and fitness exams .
