Pastor Aloysious Bugingo of House of Prayer Ministries International narrowly survived what appears to be an assassination attempt on the evening of Tuesday, January 2, 2024. The cleric reportedly dodged a spray of bullets in a dramatic and terrifying ordeal.
Salt TV presenter Mutebi, who witnessed the incident, described the harrowing moment. According to him, Pastor Bugingo instinctively ducked beneath the steering wheel of his car as gunfire erupted. This quick action is believed to have saved his life, as the hail of bullets struck the vehicle but missed him.
“Pastor Bugingo hid under the steering wheel—that’s what saved him,” Mutebi recounted. “He even attempted to pursue the attackers with his vehicle to stop them.”
Despite failing to hit their primary target, the assailants fired over 15 rounds into the passenger side of Bugingo’s car, mistakenly assuming he was seated there.
Tragically, Bugingo’s assistant and bodyguard, Richard Muhumuza, was fatally struck by approximately 13 bullets during the ambush. He died instantly.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that although Pastor Bugingo sustained injuries, he managed to drive the bullet-ridden vehicle to Mulago Hospital for emergency treatment.
Sadly, Muhumuza was declared dead upon arrival, a devastating loss for the pastor’s security team.
In the aftermath of the attack, Pastor Bugingo’s wife, Susan Makula, reportedly fainted upon hearing the news but is said to be in stable condition. The incident has sparked an emotional response across the religious community, with many offering prayers and support for the Bugingo family during this difficult time.
