NUP Supporter Paul Musoke Dies After Suspected Arson Attack
National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter Paul Musoke has died from severe burn injuries sustained in a suspected arson attack last week, the opposition party has announced.
Musoke died on Saturday while receiving treatment in hospital, according to NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya.
Rubongoya announced the death of the NUP supporter in a statement, describing Musoke as a brother who had fought bravely against the injuries he suffered in the alleged attack.
“Very sad to announce that our brother Paul Musoke could not make it,” Rubongoya said.
He added that Musoke died after a “brave fight” against severe injuries sustained during what he described as a horrific arson attack.
NUP Demands Justice
Following Musoke’s death, Rubongoya called for the individuals responsible for the suspected attack to be identified and brought to justice.
The NUP secretary general said the party remains hopeful that investigations will eventually establish who masterminded the incident and that those responsible will face prosecution.
“We remain hopeful that in due course, those who masterminded the cruel act leading to this tragedy will face justice,” Rubongoya said.
The circumstances surrounding the suspected arson attack have not yet been fully established publicly.
Police had not, by the time of publication, released detailed information regarding the alleged attack, including the circumstances leading to the injuries or the status of investigations.
Paul Musoke’s Body to Be Taken to NUP Headquarters
The NUP said Musoke’s body would be taken to the party’s headquarters on Sunday afternoon, where party leaders, supporters and friends are expected to gather to pay their respects.
The body will later be transported to Kirinya-Bweyogerere, where an overnight vigil is scheduled to take place.
Burial has been scheduled for Monday, August 31, at Bwerenga-Kawuku along Entebbe Road.
Musoke’s death comes amid renewed calls from the opposition party for authorities to investigate attacks against its supporters and establish the circumstances surrounding incidents involving its members.
Police Investigations Pending
As of publication, there was no detailed public statement from police confirming the circumstances of the suspected arson attack or identifying any suspects.
The allegations therefore remain subject to investigation, and further details are expected from law enforcement authorities as inquiries continue.
