Fatal Accident Claims Four Lives, Leaves 13 Seriously Injured Near Amungura Bridge

A tragic road accident occurred on the morning of July 29, 2025, at approximately 6:40 AM near Amungura Bridge on the Busia-Tororo Road, resulting in four fatalities and 13 critical injuries.

A Toyota Hiace minibus, registration number UA 889AM, traveling from Kampala to Tororo, lost control after hitting a pedestrian identified as 75-year-old Okedi Raymond, a resident of Amungura Village. The vehicle then veered off the road and plunged into the Malaba River.

Bukedi South police spokesperson, Moses Mugwe, confirmed that Okedi Raymond and four other passengers died instantly at the scene. The identities of the additional deceased passengers have not yet been disclosed.

Thirteen other passengers sustained serious injuries and have been rushed to Tororo General Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Preliminary reports indicate that the driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, was traveling at high speed. Upon receiving information about a temporary blockage on the Tororo route, the driver diverted to the Busia-Tororo Road. Unfortunately, this detour culminated in the fatal crash after the pedestrian was struck.

The wrecked vehicle has been towed to Busia Central Police Station as investigations continue. Authorities have extended their condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery for those injured.

Police spokesperson Mugwe urged all road users to exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic regulations, warning that failure to comply will result in legal action.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
