NRM Flag Bearer Remanded for Allegedly Slapping Prime Minister Nabanjja
KIBAALE – The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kibaale, presided over by Nazifah Namayanja, on Tuesday, September 3, 2025, remanded Onesmas Twinamasiko, the NRM Parliamentary flag bearer for Bugangaizi East, over allegations of assaulting Uganda’s Prime Minister, Robinah Nabanjja.
According to prosecution, the incident occurred on July 17, 2025, during the declaration of the NRM party primary results at the Kakumiro District NRM offices. A scuffle reportedly broke out, during which Twinamasiko allegedly took advantage of the chaos to slap the Prime Minister in full view of party supporters and security personnel.
The shocking incident has raised serious concerns over the effectiveness of the Prime Minister’s security detail, with many party supporters questioning how such an assault could occur in their presence.
Twinamasiko, who is facing charges of assault and causing bodily harm, denied the accusations. He has been remanded to Kibaale Government Prison until September 10, 2025, when his bail application is scheduled for hearing.
While in remand, the parliamentary hopeful will be a guest of the state, enjoying standard prison rations of posho and beans, as well as government-provided accommodation.
The case has stirred debate within the NRM and among the public, with calls for thorough investigations and improved security for top government officials.
