One Police Officer Dead, Three Injured as Trailer Crashes into Patrol Vehicle on Mutukula-Kyotera Road
Kyotera, October 4, 2025 — A tragic road accident claimed the life of a police officer and left three others injured early this morning at Kasanvu, along the Mutukula-Kyotera highway.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 4:00 AM when a Mercedes Benz trailer, registration number T824 DXF/T529 EFJ, lost control and rammed into a stationary police Land Cruiser (UP 2914 T) that was parked beside a checkpoint with officers on board.
According to preliminary reports, the trailer—traveling in the same direction—veered off course and crashed into the police vehicle before coming to a halt on top of it. The impact killed the police driver instantly and left three of his colleagues with serious injuries.
Speaking to the press, Traffic Police spokesperson SP Michael Kananura revealed that the trailer was not being operated by its licensed driver at the time of the incident. Instead, the vehicle was being driven by the turn-man, while the actual driver was reportedly asleep.
“The turn-man has been apprehended, and efforts to trace and arrest the main driver—currently on the run—are ongoing,” Kananura stated.
He further condemned the widespread practice of allowing turn-men to operate heavy trucks without proper training, warning that such negligence continues to endanger lives.
“Truck owners and drivers must stop using public roads as training grounds. Untrained individuals behind the wheel of heavy vehicles pose a deadly risk to themselves and others,” Kananura added.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
