BREAKING NEWS: Trio Remanded for Impersonating Tycoon Ham in Social Media Fraud Scam

Kampala, Uganda – October 7, 2025: The Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded three individuals, including two minors, for impersonating city tycoon Hamis Kiggundu—also known as Ham—in a social media scam that defrauded Ugandans of millions.

The accused—Don Sharif (24) and two juveniles aged 16 and 17—allegedly ran fake TikTok, Facebook, and WhatsApp accounts, posing as Dr. Kiggundu and representatives of the Ham Group of Companies. Victims were promised fake jobs, youth loans, and scholarships in exchange for money.

WHAT WE KNOW:

  • Sharif has been remanded to Luzira Prison; the minors to Naguru Juvenile Remand Home until October 20, 2025.

  • The suspects are all residents of Iganga District, now flagged as a cybercrime hotspot.

  • This is the sixth impersonation case involving Hamis Kiggundu this year alone.

⚠️ PUBLIC WARNING:

Ham Group’s PRO, Karim Sserugo, issued a strong warning to the public:

“Dr. Hamis Kiggundu does not offer loans, bursaries, or youth financial support. Anyone claiming so is a fraudster.”

Authorities urge Ugandans to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to the Uganda Police Cyber Crimes Unit as digital impersonation scams continue to rise.
