Miracle Baby Noah Comes Home After Being Declared Dead and Found Alive in Body Bag
A Brazilian baby who was declared dead after suffering cardiac-respiratory arrest has finally returned home following a remarkable recovery that shocked his family and medical staff.
Noah Gabriel da Cruz Santos, from Rio Claro, Brazil, was pronounced dead after doctors spent about 45 minutes attempting to resuscitate him. His parents were given time to say goodbye before his body was placed in a sealed funeral bag.
But the heartbreaking situation took an extraordinary turn when a funeral worker noticed movement coming from inside the bag.
Baby Declared Dead Found Moving Inside Body Bag
Noah had been receiving treatment at Santa Casa de Rio Claro after being born on June 15.
According to reports, he suffered a cardiac-respiratory arrest and doctors attempted resuscitation for approximately 45 minutes before declaring him dead.
His parents, Leticia and Josenildo, were reportedly allowed to spend time with their son before arrangements were made to take his body for burial.
About two hours after the death was declared, funeral worker Regina Celica Paschoal noticed that the sealed black body bag appeared to be moving.
She immediately alerted her colleagues.
When the bag was opened, the baby was reportedly moving and making sounds, prompting staff to seek urgent medical assistance.
The child was subsequently taken back for medical evaluation and returned to intensive care.
Parents Left Shocked by Baby’s Survival
Noah’s parents were reportedly overwhelmed when they discovered that their son was alive.
His mother said the family sometimes felt as though they were dreaming as they watched the baby move, kick his legs and open his eyes.
After spending almost half of his life in intensive care, Noah was eventually discharged from hospital and returned to his family home.
His homecoming was reportedly marked by a celebration involving balloons and a cake as relatives welcomed the baby back.
Although Noah remains in recovery and still requires a feeding tube, his family can now monitor his progress from home.
“After so many days of struggle, prayers and miracles, our little Noah is finally home,” the family said, according to reports.
Hospital Says Death Protocols Were Followed
The extraordinary incident prompted questions about how Noah could have been declared dead before later being found alive.
Santa Casa de Rio Claro said its medical and legal procedures for confirming the death had been followed rigorously.
The hospital said it had not identified any failure in the care provided or any procedure that required review based on the information available when the death was confirmed.
No definitive medical explanation for Noah’s apparent return to life has been publicly confirmed.
Experts Mention Rare Lazarus Phenomenon
Medical experts have reportedly pointed to a possible connection with the Lazarus phenomenon, also known as spontaneous autoresuscitation.
The rare phenomenon refers to the unexpected return of circulation after resuscitation efforts have stopped.
Similar cases have been documented following unsuccessful CPR, although the precise mechanism is not fully understood.
Possible explanations include delayed effects associated with resuscitation procedures, but experts have not confirmed that the Lazarus phenomenon explains Noah’s case.
For Noah’s family, however, the explanation matters less than the outcome: the baby they believed they had lost is now back home and continuing his recovery.
