Rukiga Bus Accident: Police Investigate Fatal Trinity Bus Crash That Killed Four

Police in Rukiga District have launched investigations into a fatal road accident that claimed four lives on the spot and left several others seriously injured along the Mbarara–Kabale Road in the early hours of Monday, 15th December 2025.

The tragic crash occurred at around 2:20 a.m. at Bukinda, involving an Isuzu bus, registration number RAG 597K, belonging to Trinity Bus Company, en route from Rwanda to Kampala.

According to the Traffic Police Spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura, preliminary findings indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to over-speeding, causing the bus to veer off the road and plunge into a trench.

The deceased include the bus driver, conductor, and turn-man, as well as a passenger identified as Habineza Alfred (30). Other victims named are Gadaffi and Lubwama John Herbert, a resident of Kanyanya Village, Kawempe Division in Wakiso District. Police later confirmed the death of the bus driver, Habiyaremye Ananias (44), a resident of Rwamagana District in Rwanda.

Several passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

Police say investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, as they continue to warn drivers against over-speeding, especially during night travel.

This is a developing story.
