Tororo Municipality MP Race Shaken as Shyam Tanna’s Chief Mobilizer Found Dead Under Mysterious Circumstances
Tororo Municipality has been thrown into shock following the mysterious death of a key campaign mobilizer for MP aspirant Shyam Tanna, who is challenging incumbent Apollo Yeri Ofwono in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The deceased, Khalid Saleh Muyaga, was one of Shyam Tanna’s chief mobilizers. He was found dead on the morning of Friday, December 26, 2025, in a corridor near Capital Pub in Tororo Municipality. At the time of his death, Khalid was reportedly mobilizing women to attend a meeting with Shyam Tanna scheduled for later that day.
According to sources familiar with the incident, Khalid appeared healthy and normal before he suddenly collapsed and died under unclear circumstances.
News of his sudden death spread quickly across Tororo Municipality, prompting residents to gather in small groups, speaking in hushed tones as speculation grew. Some residents have linked the death to alleged threats reportedly made during the heated MP race.
Locals point to circulating videos allegedly showing one of the MP aspirants confronting Shyam Tanna’s supporters and issuing threats related to the January 15, 2026 election date. Other video recordings reportedly show the same candidate addressing NRM leaders in the municipality, claiming that Shyam Tanna—often referred to as “the Muhindi”—would not be allowed to address public rallies.
A source within Shyam Tanna’s campaign alleged that several of their supporters have faced intimidation, threats, and attacks, claims they say have been downplayed or ignored by police and security agencies. The source also cited the presence of groups of youths allegedly moving around town defacing Shyam Tanna’s campaign posters and banners.
By the time of filing this report, police had not yet released an official statement regarding Khalid’s death. Authorities confirmed that a postmortem examination was underway to determine the exact cause of death, and investigations are ongoing.
The incident has heightened tension in Tororo Municipality as the closely watched MP race enters a critical phase ahead of the 2026 general elections.
