Journalist Critically Injured After Prison Van Plows Into Reporters at Ggaba Court

A journalist is in critical condition after a prison van transporting a murder suspect rammed into a group of reporters outside a court session in Ggaba on Wednesday morning.

The incident happened at the premises of Ggaba Community Church, which is currently being used as a temporary courtroom for a high-profile kindergarten murder trial involving suspect Christopher Okello Onyum.

Van Loses Control, Hits Journalists

According to eyewitnesses, the prison van was reversing toward the venue when it suddenly failed to brake and accelerated into journalists and camera crews who had gathered to cover the court proceedings.

During the chaotic scene, one of the reporters, identified as Ronald Mukhwana, was knocked down and run over by the vehicle.

Witnesses described the incident as shocking, saying the van rolled over the journalist, sparking panic among media personnel and bystanders.

Victim Rushed to Hospital

Mukhwana was immediately rushed for emergency medical attention and is currently receiving treatment at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the cause of the accident, but preliminary reports suggest brake failure may have contributed to the crash.

Growing Safety Concerns at Court Venues

The incident has raised concerns over safety measures at temporary court venues, especially in high-profile cases that attract large crowds of journalists and members of the public.

Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
