Mukono Police Recover Three Suspected Stolen Cattle Hidden in Toyota LiteAce, Arrest One Suspect
MUKONO, Uganda — Police in Mukono District have recovered three suspected stolen cattle that were being transported in a Toyota LiteAce vehicle after a dramatic early morning pursuit along the Kampala–Kayunga Highway.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the recovery was made at around 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, during a routine motorcycle patrol operation conducted by officers from Nagalama Police Division.
Police officers intercepted a white Toyota LiteAce registration number UAX 417Y, which was traveling along the highway while fully covered with an orange tarpaulin. The vehicle reportedly raised suspicion, and officers signaled the driver to stop for inspection.
However, the driver failed to comply and sped off, prompting a pursuit by the patrol team.
The chase ended at Kalagi Trading Centre, where the vehicle was abandoned by its occupants. Three suspects fled the scene on foot before police could apprehend them.
Upon inspecting the abandoned vehicle, officers discovered three cows concealed inside, leading investigators to suspect the animals had been stolen.
Police managed to arrest one suspect identified as Byansi Livingston, also known as Lubega Yusuf, who is currently being held in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
ASP Owoyesigyire said efforts are underway to track down and arrest the other suspects who escaped during the operation.
The recovered cattle and the impounded Toyota LiteAce have since been taken to Nagalama Police Division as investigators work to verify ownership and establish the circumstances surrounding the suspected theft.
Police have appealed to members of the public who may have recently lost cattle or possess information that could help identify the rightful owners of the animals to report to Nagalama Police Division.
The incident highlights continued efforts by security agencies to combat livestock theft, a crime that remains a concern in several parts of Uganda.
