LOS ANGELES, California — New details have emerged after a tragic murder-suicide in Los Angeles claimed the lives of 10-year-old twin brothers, with investigators revealing that the children’s mother narrowly escaped after the suspect allegedly fired at her.

The victims, identified as Joseph Chavez and Greysen Chavez, were found dead inside a residence in the Canoga Park neighborhood after suffering gunshot wounds to the head, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

Police say the boys’ father, Gabriel Chavez, 37, is believed to have fatally shot the twins before turning the gun on himself in what investigators are treating as a murder-suicide.

Mother Says She Was Also Targeted

According to investigators, the children’s mother told police she was also targeted during the incident but survived.

She reportedly told officers she heard two gunshots and went to check what had happened. When she approached, the suspect allegedly closed the door and fired at her, but the shot missed.

Authorities have not disclosed additional details about the sequence of events or what may have led to the deadly shooting.

A fundraising campaign created to support their mother described the twins as “funny, goofy and full of personality,” saying they loved making people laugh wherever they went.
