Police Dog Leads to Arrest of Man Over Uncle’s Murder in Kween District
KWEEN, Uganda — A police sniffer dog has helped detectives arrest a man suspected of murdering his uncle during a successful canine-led operation in Kween District.
The suspect, identified as Chewanjeli Paul, a resident of Chesakat Village in Binyinyi Sub-county, is being held by Territorial Police in Siipi over the killing of Bushendish Michael, 65, of Katan Village, Aloman Parish, Kaptum Sub-county.
According to police, officers received a report of a suspected murder on June 28, 2026, at around 9:00 a.m. A team of investigators immediately responded to the scene, where they secured the area and began collecting forensic evidence.
Police Dog Tracks Suspect
The Police K9 Unit was deployed to assist with the investigation, with Police Dog King assigned to track the suspect.
After being introduced to the victim’s scent trail, the sniffer dog followed a path through a crowd of residents gathered near the crime scene. Investigators said the dog repeatedly circled among the onlookers before stopping beside one individual, lying next to him and refusing to move.
Community members identified the man as Chewanjeli Paul, who was immediately arrested by police for further questioning.
Victim Suffered Multiple Injuries
Preliminary police findings indicate that Bushendish Michael sustained a deep cut to the left upper shoulder near the neck, along with three additional wounds on the lower part of the same arm.
Investigators have also established that the deceased was the suspect’s uncle, although the motive behind the killing has not yet been officially confirmed.
Blood-Stained Clothing Recovered
During the investigation, police recovered a pair of trousers bearing suspected blood stains believed to belong to the suspect.
Detectives allege that the suspect’s wife attempted to conceal the trousers by hiding them at a neighbour’s home.
Police further revealed that gumboots believed to have been worn during the commission of the crime were allegedly burned by the suspect’s wife in an attempt to destroy crucial evidence.
Investigations Ongoing
The suspect remains in police custody as detectives continue gathering evidence and recording witness statements.
Authorities say forensic examinations will be carried out on the recovered exhibits to strengthen the case before it is forwarded for prosecution.
Police have commended the effectiveness of the K9 Unit, noting that the swift tracking operation played a critical role in identifying and apprehending the suspect.
