Three Killed, 10 Injured in Ishaka-Kagamba Road Crash
Three people have been confirmed dead and 10 others injured following a tragic road accident along the Ishaka-Kagamba Road in Bushenyi District.
The fatal crash occurred on Monday at around 4:40 p.m. at Omukatagu, involving a silver-grey Toyota Hiace carrying mourners.
According to preliminary police reports, the victims were travelling from Kashaka in Mbarara District to Rwerere in Rukungiri District when the accident happened.
The Toyota Hiace, registration number UA 836AM, was reportedly negotiating a sharp bend when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.
Police say the vehicle was suspected to have been travelling at excessive speed before veering off the road and crashing into a pavement.
Three Men Die at the Scene
Three adult male passengers died instantly in the crash. By the time of reporting, police had not yet established their identities.
Ten other passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Kitagata Hospital and Kampala International University (KIU) Hospital for medical treatment.
The identity of the driver had also not yet been confirmed.
Police Investigate Suspected Speeding
Police officers led by IP Nkwasibwe Alfred visited the scene and documented the accident.
The damaged Toyota Hiace was later towed to Ishaka Police Station, where it will undergo inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
Preliminary investigations indicate that speeding may have contributed to the deadly accident.
Police have since launched further investigations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the Ishaka-Kagamba Road crash.
The incident adds to growing concerns about road safety and speeding on Uganda’s highways, as authorities continue to urge motorists to drive carefully and observe traffic regulations.
