Kenyan Nurse Murei Buried as Husband Chooses Forgiveness Amid Murder Allegations
A grieving husband has moved mourners with an emotional tribute to his late wife, Murei, choosing forgiveness and compassion despite allegations surrounding her private life and the circumstances leading to her death.
The 45-year-old nurse from Eldoret was laid to rest at her family home in Chemolingot, Tiaty, Baringo County, where relatives, friends, colleagues from the nursing profession and other mourners gathered to pay their final respects.
Husband Forgives Late Wife
One of the most emotional moments of the burial came during the requiem Mass when Murei’s husband addressed mourners and reflected on the life they shared.
Despite reports and allegations concerning his late wife’s alleged relationship with another man, the grieving husband reportedly refused to speak with bitterness.
Instead, he publicly chose to forgive her and remembered her with love and compassion.
His decision deeply touched mourners, particularly because Murei’s funeral was taking place against the backdrop of intense public attention surrounding her death.
Rather than allowing allegations about her personal life to dominate the farewell, her husband focused on the memories they shared and the qualities he cherished in her.
Murei’s Death Under Investigation
Murei’s death has attracted widespread attention following a fatal shooting reported on August 30, 2026.
According to police reports, the nurse was allegedly shot at around 5pm at the General Service Unit (GSU) Camp Eldoret mess compound.
Investigators reportedly believe a confrontation occurred between Murei and Police Constable Nathan Kirwa before the officer allegedly fired a rifle, killing the nurse at the scene.
Police investigators who visited the location reportedly recovered seven spent 9mm cartridges, a Toyota Corolla 110 and a rifle holster believed to be connected to the suspect.
Kirwa was reportedly attached to a security team assigned to Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii. He is said to have left the scene with other individuals shortly after the shooting.
Police Officer Appears in Court
On September 1, 2026, Kirwa reportedly appeared before Chief Magistrate Peter Ndwiga as prosecutors sought additional time to complete investigations into the circumstances surrounding Murei’s death.
The case remains under investigation, and questions persist over what happened in the moments leading up to the fatal shooting.
Murei’s body was initially taken to Eldoret Hospital Mortuary before being released to her family for burial.
A Final Act of Forgiveness
As investigations continue, Murei’s husband chose to make the funeral a moment of forgiveness rather than accusation.
His emotional tribute highlighted the painful reality faced by families dealing with sudden and violent deaths — grief, unanswered questions and difficult personal circumstances.
For mourners gathered in Chemolingot, his decision to forgive his late wife offered a powerful and emotional conclusion to a funeral overshadowed by tragedy.
As Murei was laid to rest, her family and friends were left to remember the nurse beyond the circumstances of her death, while investigators continue working to establish exactly what happened before the fatal shooting.
