King Oyo’s Cousin Says Late Tooro Monarch Left More Than One Child
A new detail has emerged in the ongoing debate over the succession of the late Tooro King, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, after his cousin, Ron Kazooba Kawamara, suggested that the former monarch left more than one child.
Kawamara made the revelation in a brief exchange on X on October 1, 2026, after a user identified as LoneChild posted: “BABY OYO EXISTS.”
Kawamara quoted the post and responded simply: “Babies :)”
The plural wording suggests that King Oyo may have had more than one child. However, Kawamara did not provide further details about the children, including their names, ages, sex or number.
King Oyo’s children at the centre of succession dispute
The issue of Oyo’s children has featured prominently in the dispute surrounding the Tooro Kingdom succession following his death.
Princess Ruth Komuntale, Oyo’s sister, previously rejected the selection of Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma by the Babiito royal clan, arguing that the late king had left a will naming his son as his heir.
Former Queen Mother Best Kemigisa also opposed the selection of the new king.
Kemigisa later said that Oyo’s son had remained in the United States amid tensions surrounding the succession process.
Kawamara’s latest comment appears to add a new dimension to the discussion because it refers to “babies” in the plural, rather than only one child.
However, his response does not establish whether all the children are known to the Babiito royal clan or whether any of them has been formally presented as a potential heir.
Calls for Oyo’s children to live long
Following Kawamara’s response, LoneChild commented: “Now let’s pray for long life and see one of them sit in that throne.”
The exchange comes just two days after the coronation of Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I at Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal on September 29, 2026.
President Yoweri Museveni attended the coronation ceremony.
The succession dispute has continued despite the installation of Nyabongo, with members of the late king’s family maintaining different positions over who should succeed Oyo.
King Oyo’s death and burial
King Oyo died on August 27, 2026, at the age of 34 while receiving cancer treatment in the United States.
He had spent nearly three decades on the Tooro throne after becoming king as a child.
His body was later returned to Uganda, and he was buried at the Karambi Royal Tombs on September 12, 2026.
The latest comments by Kawamara have renewed attention on Oyo’s children and their possible place in the future of the Tooro Kingdom, although no official details about the number or identities of the children have been provided.
