Bobi Wine Unveils Defiant Post‑Nomination Rally in Nateete
KAMPALA — Fresh from his formal nomination as a presidential candidate for the 2026 election, opposition leader Robert “Bobi Wine” Kyagulanyi rallied a mass of supporters in Nateete on Wednesday, delivering a forceful address that painted Uganda’s 40‑year rule under President Museveni as one of repression and economic injustice.
Speaking before a sea of chanting supporters, Kyagulanyi declared:
“Hold the flag with pride. Uganda belongs to us. We all have equal shares.”
He accused the ruling elite of looting state institutions, turning citizens into “beggars” in their own land, and transforming government into instruments of control. His wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, bolstered the appeal by urging voters to affirm their confidence:
“If you give Bobi votes, he will liberate Uganda from the abyss… You’ll never regret voting for Kyagulanyi.”
Meanwhile, President Museveni — nominated earlier in the week — is positioning his campaign on preserving Uganda’s gains and steering the nation toward middle‑income status after nearly four decades in power. As the seven other cleared candidates join the fray, the 2026 election is shaping into a pivotal showdown between long‑standing incumbency and a resurgent opposition movement.
