Mulago Specialized Women and Neonatal Hospital has successfully delivered its second baby conceived through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).

According to Dr. Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, the healthy baby girl weighing 3.6 kg was born today, Friday, 1st August, 2025.

She says the hospital began offering IVF services in August 2024, and there are 11 confirmed pregnancies so far.

“A milestone worth celebrating as we continue expanding access to advanced specialized services to the country,” says Dr. Atwine.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a procedure in which eggs are removed from a woman’s ovary and combined with sperm outside the body to form embryos. The embryos are grown in the laboratory for several days and then either placed in a woman’s uterus or cryopreserved (frozen) for future use. Also called IVF.
