Top Story: Over 1.4 Million Candidates Registered for 2025 National Exams – UNEB
KAMPALA, Uganda — The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced that 1,415,857 candidates have been officially registered to sit for the 2025 national examinations, marking a significant increase in enrollment across all education levels.
This total includes candidates for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE). The figure represents a 6.8% rise from the 1,319,139 candidates registered in 2024, signaling growing engagement in the country’s formal education system.
UNEB spokesperson Jennifer Kalule Musamba confirmed the numbers and announced that the registration process officially closed on Wednesday, July 31, 2025.
To ensure accuracy and transparency, all examination centres are now required to publicly display candidate registers within school premises, allowing learners and parents to verify submitted information.
“Verification dates will be announced soon, and UNEB will also roll out an SMS-based verification system to make it easier for candidates and guardians to confirm registration details using their mobile phones,” Kalule said.
She emphasized that post-registration amendments will only be permitted to correct candidate bio-data, including name spellings and date of birth, as per UNEB guidelines.
The growing candidate numbers underline increased access to education and renewed efforts to streamline the examination process through technology and accountability measures.
