Top Story: The Ugandan Village Where Bees Arrest Motorbike Thieves
Kaliro District — In a remote village in eastern Uganda, crime-fighting has taken an unexpected — and buzzing — turn. Residents of Mugulu Village in Kaliro District are crediting a powerful mix of traditional spirituality and nature after a recent string of motorbike thefts was brought to a halt — not by police, but by swarms of angry bees.
Locals say the phenomenon began when a well-known traditional healer, Omusawo Wa Kisolo, was approached by a desperate boda boda (motorbike taxi) rider whose bike had been stolen. Instead of turning to conventional law enforcement, the healer invoked what villagers call “bee justice.”
Within hours, witnesses say, a swarm of bees descended on the alleged thief — not just stinging him, but pinning him down until community members arrived. “He was screaming for help, but the bees would not let him move,” said an eyewitness. “It was like they were sent with a mission.”
The suspect, visibly swollen and disoriented, later admitted to the theft and begged for forgiveness. The motorbike was recovered nearby, untouched.
This is not an isolated case, villagers insist. At least three similar incidents have occurred in recent months, all involving stolen motorbikes and unexpected “arrests” by bees. The bizarre occurrences have sparked both awe and debate across Uganda — with many praising the traditional powers, while others warn against relying on supernatural justice.
Police in the region have acknowledged the reports but urge the public to report crimes through legal channels. “We are aware of these incidents, but we caution citizens against taking the law into their own hands — even if it involves bees,” said Kaliro District Police Commander James Okiria.
Still, in Mugulu Village, belief in the healer’s powers is growing. Riders from neighboring districts have begun seeking his services to “secure” their motorbikes from theft — often leaving with a mysterious herbal charm or a whispered blessing.
Whether viewed as folklore, fear, or fact, one thing is clear: in this village, crime no longer pays — and even the smallest creature might deliver justice.
As one resident put it: “You can escape the police, but not the bees.”
