German Court Sentences Man to 8.5 Years for Drugging, Raping, and Filming Wife for Years

A court in Aachen, Germany, has sentenced a 61-year-old man, identified only as Fernando P., to eight-and-a-half years in prison for drugging, raping, and filming his wife over several years. The defendant, originally from Spain, was convicted of aggravated rape, grievous bodily harm, and violating personal privacy.

From 2018 to 2024, Fernando P. repeatedly sedated his wife at their home, subjected her to sexual abuse, and filmed the acts. He then shared the disturbing footage online, distributing it through chat groups and various internet platforms.

Court spokesperson Katharina Effert confirmed that much of the trial proceedings were closed to protect the identity of the victim. Her lawyer, Nicole Servaty, expressed that while the verdict could not undo the harm done, it might offer some relief to the victim as she continues to process the trauma.

The case bears similarities to a high-profile 2024 French case involving Dominique Pelicot, who was convicted of a similar crime against his wife.

The sentence is subject to appeal.
