Ugandan musician Hajjat Stecia Mayanja has officially been sworn in as the President of the National Peasants Party (NPP).
The ceremony, held in Nansana during the party’s official unveiling of its leadership structure and roadmap for the 2026 general elections, marked a powerful rebirth for the once-dormant political entity.

Founded in 2004 by Hajj Elias Wamala Miyagi, the National Peasants Party had fallen into political obscurity over the years.
But on this day, the party stirred back to life, and it did so under the leadership of a woman who made her name not in politics, but in music and entertainment.
Taking her oath with a mix of solemnity and determination, Stecia Mayanja pledged loyalty to the party, promising to remain faithful to its cause and values.
“I vow to stay loyal to the party, to be faithful to its mission, and to uphold the constitutional values and political vision we stand for,” she declared, met with thunderous applause from both party delegates and fans who gathered for the event.
