TOP STORY: Gospel Singer Best Emily Shines at Debut Kampala Concert
This month began on a high note for Western Uganda’s celebrated gospel singer Best Emily, who successfully held her debut Kampala concert at the prestigious Kampala Serena Hotel — marking a major milestone in her musical journey.
Known for her uplifting and soul-healing gospel hits, Best Emily drew a sizable crowd of gospel music lovers, particularly from the corporate scene, who turned up in strong support. The show also featured several prominent gospel artists from Western Uganda, including Keti Mukiza, Florence Musiimenta, Peterson Ma, and Lady Dianah, among others.
Taking the stage at around 8 p.m., Best Emily opened with her popular hit “Ori Murungi,” followed by crowd favorites like “Degree Y’omuzaire,” “Torikwija Kufa,” and “Embera Y’ensi.” Her heartfelt performance resonated deeply with the audience, many of whom sang along and even joined her on stage during the praise session.
“I’ve performed at small private events in Kampala before, but this was my first major concert here. I was overwhelmed by the love and energy from the audience—they knew my songs, they sang with me, and they danced. I couldn’t have asked for a better welcome,” Best Emily said.
She added that the praise session was the highlight of her night, noting that many in the audience requested an extended performance. “They wanted more. And I promise my fans — this is just the beginning. More concerts are coming,” she said, encouraging the public to continue supporting gospel music as a source of healing and inspiration.
Best Emily, whose discography includes songs such as “Bara Emigisha Yaawe,” “Ori Omumikono Ya Yesu,” “Embera Y’ensi,” “Takyerereirwe,” and “My God Is Bigger,” first held a major concert in 2023 at Agip Motel in Mbarara. Her Kampala concert aimed to expand her reach and connect with a national audience.
Producer Bruno Beats, who has worked with numerous gospel acts, praised the event, saying it reflected the growing impact and potential of the gospel music industry in Uganda. “If artists can fill high-end venues like Serena for gospel concerts, it means the genre is gaining ground. But we must focus on quality production and sound. Gospel music deserves excellence,” he said.
As the curtains closed on Best Emily’s debut Kampala show, it became clear that she is no longer just a regional favorite — she is a rising national gospel star.
