Secretary Remanded Over Theft of Shs1.35 Billion Teachers SACCO Money

The Secretary, Uganda Liberal Teacher’s Union Members SACCO has been remanded to Luzira government Prisons over theft of part of the Shs20 Billion President Museveni gave to teachers to improve their welfare.

 

Twinomujuni Nathan who appeared before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court on Monday, 18th August, 2025 was charged with obtaining money by false pretence and Conspiracy to defraud over UGX 1. 35 Billion.

 

He has been remanded until 03/09/2025.

 

Twinomugisha joins other two co-accused; Mutesasira Evans Kaganizo, the Chairperson, Uganda Liberal Teacher’s Union Members SACCO and Esiingwa Hassan Maganda, a business man and director, Hansem Technical Services Limited who misappropriated over UGX 3.6 Billion, part of UGX 20 Billion that was granted to Teachers’ SACCOs by H.E the President to improve their welfare.

 

According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit that carried out the investigations, says upon receipt of the money, the SACCO Chairperson together with Twinomujuni Nathan Kakson, the Secretary, embarked on various activities including; purchase of land in Kiira Municipality at UGX 1.3 Billion, Purchase of unidentified 500 Acres of land at Kabwoya, Kyangwali in Kikuube district at UGX 2.75 Billion from Hansem Technical Services and motor vehicles worth over UGX 250 Million.

 

An installment of UGX 1.35 Billion part of the UGX 2.75 Billion for the unidentified 500 Acres of land was paid on the account of Hassan Maganda on 16 December, 2024.
