President Museveni congratulates Anita Among after her landslide victory

Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has threatened to quit her long time NRM Party saying the gross abuse of office witnessed throughout the CEC election is truly unacceptable.

Kadaga lost to Among who garnered 11,680 votes representing 92.8 of the total votes cast leaving her with a paltry 902 votes that she largely got from Busoga delegates.

Taking to her X-Handle shortly after the loss on Wednesday 27th August, 2025, Kadaga said that if the oppression persists, she shall be left with no choice but to walk away.

“I deeply thank everyone who, despite massive voter bribery and intimidation, stood by me. The gross abuse of office witnessed throughout this election is truly unacceptable. We cherish our party, but if this oppression persists, we shall be left with no choice but to walk away,” writes Kadaga.

Anita swept all regions of the country including overseas delegates and secured overwhelming support in key strongholds.

Kadaga victory was limited to a few districts like Namutumba, Kamuli, Luuka, Jinja district, Jinja City and Mayuge.
