Kampala Police Bust Suspected Online Sex Trafficking Ring in Kyaliwajjala, Rescue 27 Young Women

Kampala Metropolitan Police have dismantled a suspected online sex trafficking and pornography syndicate following a raid on a heavily guarded residence in Mbalwa-Buyinja Zone, Kyaliwajjala, in Namugongo Division.

The operation, conducted on the evening of May 18, was based on intelligence reports indicating that the property was being used to recruit and exploit young women through online adult content production.

During the raid, police discovered 27 females aged between 17 and 26 years living in three rooms within the residence. Investigators also recovered laptops, cameras, and several adult devices believed to have been used in the production and distribution of commercial online adult content.

Authorities arrested a total of 28 people, including the 27 women and one male suspect. All are currently assisting police with ongoing investigations.

One of the rescued women described the difficult conditions inside the operation, alleging that participants were exposed to exploitation and health risks while involved in the online activities.

Police say efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the alleged masterminds behind the network, including individuals suspected of recruiting young women with promises of financial opportunities before allegedly drawing them into online sex-related activities.

Among the names mentioned in the ongoing investigations is Ronnie Mulindwa, a former entertainment industry figure, although police have not yet announced any formal charges against him.

The bust has renewed concerns about the growing use of digital platforms to facilitate human trafficking and the exploitation of vulnerable young people. Law enforcement agencies have warned that criminal networks are increasingly targeting unemployed youth through social media and online recruitment schemes.

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as investigations continue.

The operation has also sparked debate about the best approach to combating online exploitation, with some observers calling for greater focus on identifying and prosecuting recruiters, organizers, and financiers who profit from such activities.

Police say additional arrests may follow as the investigation expands.
