TOP STORY: Russian Man Has Massive Head-Sized Tumor Removed After 16 Years of Failed Home Remedies
Kirov, Russia — A 65-year-old man from the city of Kirov has undergone a successful surgery to remove a colossal tumor the size of his head from the base of his neck, after living with it for an astonishing 16 years.
Doctors at Kirov Regional Clinical Hospital were left stunned when the patient revealed that he had relied on ineffective home remedies and ointments throughout the entire period, hoping the growth would simply disappear on its own.
“Usually, such a tumor grows slowly and painfully, so many patients postpone a visit to a specialist, hoping that the formation will disappear on its own,” explained Igor Popyrin, head of the hospital’s surgical department, in an interview with local news outlet Izvestia.
The tumor was diagnosed as a benign lipoma — a fatty lump typically found between the skin and muscle layers. While lipomas usually remain small and doughy, this one had grown to an extraordinary size, weighing heavily on the man’s neck and upper back.
The case was especially complicated due to the tumor’s location near critical blood vessels and nerves, including the cervical plexus connected to the spinal cord. Surgeons had to perform the operation with extreme precision.
Due to the tumor’s weight and size, the patient couldn’t lie flat on his back and had to remain on his side throughout the entire procedure. Surgeons even drew an imaginary line estimating where the man’s neck would be without the tumor to guide their delicate work.
“If the lipoma grows, then no ointments or folk remedies will help. The only effective treatment is surgical removal,” Popyrin added.
This extraordinary case highlights the risks of delaying medical treatment and relying on unproven home cures — especially for conditions that can become life-threatening without proper intervention.
The man is now recovering well, and doctors hope his story will encourage others not to ignore persistent health issues.
