Teargas, Live Bullets as Police Rescue Murder Suspects from Furious Mob

Mbale City, October 6, 2025 – Chaos erupted in Mbale City’s Northern Division on Monday morning as police fired teargas and live bullets to disperse an enraged mob attempting to lynch suspected murderers.

The violence broke out in Kisenyi Cell, Nabiyonga Ward, after the death of Aisha Masibu, a vendor from Bukonde Machere village, who was fatally struck by a stone while trying to shield her husband from a beating near Kikindu Market. He is currently hospitalized with serious injuries.

Mob Demands Justice, House Set Ablaze

In a dramatic escalation, grieving relatives of the deceased carried her body to the suspects’ home in Kisenyi Cell, demanding the alleged killers be handed over. Enraged residents began vandalizing and looting the property where three suspects were reportedly hiding.

  • One suspect escaped.
  • The second was pulled out after the mob set the house on fire and severely beaten before police intervened.
  • The third and prime suspect, identified as Yusuf alias “50-50,” was rescued by a military unit from inside the barricaded house.

Police Confirm Arrests

Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, Rogers Taitika, confirmed that two suspects are now in custody on suspicion of murder.

“We emphasize that criminal liability is an individual responsibility,” Taitika said, urging the public to refrain from mob justice. “These actions only obstruct investigations and endanger innocent lives.”

He also condemned the destruction of property belonging to the suspects’ families.

Suspect Known to Authorities

Locals claim that Yusuf, the main suspect, is a notorious repeat offender, recently released after a six-month jail term and believed to have resumed criminal activity almost immediately.

Nabiyonga Zone Security Secretary, Seku Abdulkarim, corroborated the claims, expressing frustration with the recurring lawlessness.

Mbale City Deputy RCC, Gadimba Hussein, urged parents to monitor their children closely, citing rampant drug abuse as a driving factor behind rising crime among youth.

Ongoing Investigations

The situation in Mbale has since been brought under control, but tensions remain high. Police have launched a full investigation into the murder and surrounding events.
