2026 Elections: EC Confirms 21.6 Million Eligible Ugandan Voters

BREAKING: Uganda’s Voter Register Reaches 21.68 Million Ahead of 2026 Elections

Kampala, Uganda — The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that Uganda now has 21,681,491 registered voters ahead of the 2026 General Elections. Women make up the majority, with 11,347,129 female voters compared to 10,334,362 men, highlighting their growing influence in the electoral process.

EC Chairperson Simon Byabakama said the voter register spans 50,739 polling stations, covering 71,214 villages across 353 constituencies, ensuring broad access for all eligible citizens.

“We urge all citizens to check their registration details and know their designated polling stations. Participation in the electoral process is the cornerstone of our democracy,” Byabakama said.

Preparations for the elections are ongoing, with ballot-paper production underway and voter location slips soon to be distributed to reduce confusion on polling day.

Observers note that the sizeable electorate—including more young and female voters—could significantly shape the outcome of the 2026 elections. Political parties and candidates are expected to intensify campaigns as they reach out to this diverse voter base.

The EC continues to stress voter education, civic responsibility, and collaboration with local authorities to ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.

With just over a year to go, Uganda is preparing for what promises to be one of the country’s most closely watched and widely participated elections.
